In the movie “The Matrix,” Neo had to choose between the red pill or the blue pill. Annuities vs stock market you have to choose the red pill or the green pill. I like this analogy. It’s the belief system that we’ve all been blindfolded by our whole lives, tricked into believing. With annuities vs stock market the red pill is the mutual fund industry and the green pill is annuities—the truth.
People have been brainwashed so to speak, that everybody must be in mutual funds to have a 401(k) plan, which is simply not the case. At this point there is a ton of evidence that has been built up to prove that in the battle of annuities vs mutual funds, annuities come out on top. More and more people are starting to wake up and take the green pill. Do we stick with what we know and believe in, buy into that system? Or do we choose a new pill and say “Hey, there’s a new opportunity here, a new way of looking at saving for retirement– I’m ready to wake up”?
The paradigm shift is happening and things have come a long way to be able to put an indexed annuity into a 401(k). Employees have been hurt in the 401(k) system. Their mindsets are starting to change. The mindsets of employers are starting to change also. Annuities vs stock market is a topic that is being talked about even in the Supreme Court with the Lifetime Income Disclosure Act.
For years, teachers and public employees have been able to make the choice of annuities vs stock market in their 403(b) plans. Individuals have also been able to make the decision in their personal retirement accounts. For the first time this is being brought to private sector employee 401(k) plans. When the stock market crashed in 2008, I had my securities and life license. People were coming to me and were saying, “Get me out of the stock market” and showing me 401(k) statements from their current job. I had to tell them, “I can’t help you.” I felt helpless. I couldn’t help people that needed the help and came to me asking for it. That is where it started. That’s where I said, “There’s got to be a way to help these people that are trapped.” That is when I decided to give everybody the choice to choose between the green pill and the red pill.
